day 05: my definition of love

love... it is as simple as this:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 - "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

Jesus Christ showed us the ultimate example of love when He died on the cross for our sins. He encourages us to do the same for others:
John 15:13 - "This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends."

Today, I was encouraged after hearing a story about Corrie ten Boom and her sister Betsy. Corrie ten Boom and Betsy were Christians who lived in the Netherlands during World War II. They would hide Jews in their home in order to protect them from the Nazis, but eventually they were discovered and taken to the concentration camp. After being in the concentration camp and watching the terrible things happen, Corrie told Betsy, "This place is the pit of hell!" Betsy replied, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper."

How encouraging is that? I love it. And I will try to continually remind myself, even in deep darkness, that God's love is deep enough to reach me.
